Definition and Qualities
Christ-Centered Believers are individuals who've given their heart and life to Christ, and have matured enough to know that Christ is supposed to be at the center of their lives ( i.e., not just a short, Sunday morning activity). These individuals have developed the daily habits of prayer and reading God's Word, the weekly studying of their Bibles and the fellowshipping with other believers, as well as submitting to Christ and His Word on a weekly basis — these include decisions about money, relationships, jobs, homes, as well as which words, thoughts and actions truly honor their Lord!
Focuses
At this stage of maturity, the life focuses of a Christ-Centered Believer shift to:
- • Continuing to place Christ at the center of every decision, action and conversation.
- • Taking the time to develop godly character: for example, honesty, integrity, courage, humility, responsibility, perseverance, graciousness, kindness and compassion (i.e., it's not enough to JUST be a good person). These must be honed and developed in difficult circumstances!
- • Finding His purpose for the life you've been given — and then doing it.
- • Learning more about apologetics and polemics, or how to answer questions like, “Why suffering?” “Why so many Bible versions?” and “Where did Cain get his wife?” These are important because of the Biblical command found in 1 Peter 3:15
So, at this stage of growth, the Christ-Centered Believer has learned the most important lesson in life: to put the Lord Jesus Christ, His Word and His Spirit at the center of his or her mind, heart, thoughts, words, and actions. And now it's time for them to learn how to follow Christ with greater discipline and devotion, as well as be able to defend their faith with those who would try to tear it down!
