Definition and Qualities

A Determined Seeker is someone who is sincere, determined, knowledgeable, and consistent in their pursuit of truth as well as their pursuit of finding God. To them, if He is found, it is their desire to begin a relationship with Him. If He is not found — after a year of dedicated pursuit — then they will be satisfied knowing they made every effort.

I use the phrase "Determined Seeker" to differentiate between those whom I consider "Just Curious" or "Disinterested." The Just Curious are curious enough to see if they can discover if there is a God, but not curious enough to initiate a relationship with Him — because doing so might involve change. The Disinterested have made a choice — conscious or unconscious — to not know anything about this topic.

So, if you are sincere in your desire to find out if God exists and is real—and if you're determined to begin a relationship if He's found—you've come to the right place.

Focuses

"Pursue God with sincerity, study, and prayer."

I recommend that Determined Seekers focus their efforts on seven tasks:

  1. Read the Gospel of Mark. It's concise and direct, action-oriented, fast-paced, presents a clear portrait of Jesus, emphasizes faith, focuses on discipleship, and is great for those new to the Bible.
  2. Read the Gospel of John. It has a clear focus on Jesus' divinity, simple yet profound language, emphasis on belief, unique content (about 90% not found in the other Gospels), powerful "I AM" statements, and deep theological insight.
  3. Read the Book of James. Practical wisdom (the "Proverbs of the New Testament"), short and accessible, shows faith in action, guidance on trials, wisdom from above, the power of the tongue, humility, prayer, and care for the needy.
  4. Pray sincerely and consistently. Ask The Lord to reveal Himself to you.
  5. Talk with those who are sold out to Christ. Listen to their stories.
  6. Listen to podcasts and sermons.
  7. Ask questions to those who are knowledgeable, patient, caring, and experienced.
