DEFINITION and QUALITIES
A Curious Seeker is someone who is sincere, determined, knowledgeable, and consistent in their pursuit of truth as well as their pursuit of finding God. To them, if He is found, it is their desire to begin a relationship with Him. If He is not found - after a year of dedicated pursuit - then they will be satisfied knowing they made every effort to find and reach Him - and now they can begin to work on discovering other important goals and truths!
Now, I use the phrase "Curious Seeker" to differentiate between those whom I consider, "Just Curious" or "Disinterested." The Just Curious Individuals - at least the ones I've encountered - are those curious enough to see if they can discover if there is a God, but not curious enough to initiate and begin a relationship with Him - because doing so might involve "change" or giving up something. Unfortunately, some of these people end up finding what the Bible calls "the god of this world" . This particular god can appear as an "an angel of light" , can cause weather storms, take lives and wreak havoc on mankind - within limits. The Disinterested Individuals are those who've made a choice - conscious or unconscious - to not know anything about this topic. In short, they don't care whether God exists or not - and they have no interest in finding or getting to know Him.
So, if you are sincere in your desire is to find out if God exists and is real - and if you're determined to begin a relationship if He's found - you've come to the right place. I can definitely help you in this pursuit!
FOCUSES
I recommend that Curious Seekers focus their efforts on seven (7) tasks:
1. Read the Gospel of Mark. Below are twelve reasons to consider reading this Gospel first:
• It's Concise and Direct - Mark is the shortest Gospel, making it accessible and easy to read in a single sitting - especially if you currently have a bust schedule.
• It's Action-Oriented - It emphasizes what Jesus did more than what He said, showing you His power and compassion in action.
• It's Fast-Paced Narrative - The frequent use of “immediately” creates urgency and keeps readers engaged.
• Its Clear Portrait of Jesus - It presents Jesus as the Son of God and Suffering Servant, highlighting both His authority and humility.
• Its Strong Emphasis on Faith - It calls readers to believe in Jesus through His works, miracles, and ultimate sacrifice.
• Its Focus on Discipleship - It shows the struggles and growth of the disciples, offering lessons for modern-day followers of Christ.
• Its Practical Lessons - Stories are simple and straightforward, easy to apply to daily life and faith practice.
• Its Authentic and Vivid - Mark includes small details (like Jesus’ emotions and actions) that give it a sense of eyewitness authenticity.
• It Highlights Jesus’ Authority - Demonstrates His power over sickness, demons, nature, sin, and death.
• It Teaches Servant Leadership - Mark 10:45 summarizes Jesus’ mission: “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve.” Servant-based leadership has the easiest leader to follow - because He's done everything He's asked His Followers to do!!
• It's Great for New Believers - Its clarity and simplicity make it an excellent starting point for someone new to the Bible.
• It Strengthens Perseverance - It encourages readers to endure suffering, reminding them that following Christ includes trials and tribulations but always leads to victory.
2. Read the Gospel of John. Here are twelve reasons to read this Gospel second:
• Its Clear Focus on Jesus’ Divinity - John presents Jesus as the eternal Word made flesh, giving deep insight into His nature.
• It's Simple Yet Profound Language - Easy words (light, life, bread, water, love) carry rich spiritual meaning.
• Its Emphasis on Belief - The purpose of the book is stated: “That you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (The Promised Redeemer)… and have life in His name” .
• Its Unique Content - About 90% of John’s material is not found in Matthew, Mark, or Luke (e.g., raising Lazarus from the dead, washing disciples’ feet).
• Its Powerful “I AM” Statements - Jesus directly reveals who He is (e.g., “I am the Bread of Life,” “I am the Good Shepherd,” “I am the Resurrection and the Life”). Also, it links Jesus with the "I Am" of the Old Testament!
• Its Deep Theological Insight - John explains profound truths about God’s love, the Holy Spirit, eternal life, and the relationship of Father and Son.
• It shows Personal Encounters with Jesus - Intimate stories like Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, and Thomas highlight Jesus’ care for individuals.
• Its Strong Emphasis on Love - Teaches believers to love one another as Christ has loved them.
• It Reveals Jesus’ Humanity - Shows Jesus’ emotions: He weeps, gets tired, and cares deeply, making Him relatable.
• Eternal Life is Highlighted - Repeatedly stresses eternal life (i.e., life after death) as a present reality through faith, not just a future promise.
• Its Clarity for New Believers - It’s often recommended as the one of the first Gospel to read because it clearly explains salvation through Christ. This salvation prepares an individual to stand before God and meet Him on His terms - not theirs (i.e., "I'm a good person", or "I have more good deeds than bad", etc..).
• It Strengthens Mature Faith - Its depth of theology, imagery, and symbolism challenges seasoned believers to grow in understanding and devotion.
3. Read the Book of James. Below are twelve reasons to read this book:
• Its Practical Wisdom - James is sometimes called the “Proverbs of the New Testament” because it’s filled with practical life lessons on living a life that pleases God.
• It's Short and Accessible - Only five chapters, making it easy to read in one sitting while still being very rich in content.
• It shows Faith in Action - The book emphasizes that true faith expresses itself through works, not just words.
• Guidance on Trials - The book teaches how to endure difficulties with patience and joy, knowing they build maturity.
• It gives Wisdom from Above - Offers clear descriptions of godly wisdom: pure, peace-loving, gentle, merciful, and sincere.
• It teaches the Power of the Tongue - Warns of the dangers of careless speech and teaches self-control in words.
• Its Call to Humility - It reminds Believers to resist pride and to submit to God.
• Its Encouragement to Prayer - Strong emphasis on prayer in all circumstances—trouble, joy, sickness, wealth, etc..
• Its Instruction on Wealth - The book addresses how to handle money, warns against greed, and encourages personal and sacrificial generosity.
• Care for the Needy - The book defines “pure religion” as caring for widows and orphans (i.e., those without strong male leadership and care in their lives).
• Accountability and Integrity - The book calls for Believers to be “doers of The Word,” not just hearers.
• Its Straightforward Style - James is blunt, bold, and practical—easy to understand yet deeply challenging.
4. Praying sincerely and consistently, asking The Lord to reveal Himself to you.
5. Talking with those who are sold out to Christ (not just the religious ones) and listening to their stories.
6. Listening to podcasts/sermons.
7. Asking questions to those who are knowledgeable, patient, caring and experienced.
